Job Overview
This position focuses on designing and implementing biodiversity conservation projects in Rwanda’s western region. The specialist will work directly with local stakeholders, conduct field research, and contribute to policy development for wildlife protection. The role emphasizes community engagement, data-driven decision-making, and cross-sector collaboration to address emerging conservation challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to monitor wildlife populations and habitat health
- Develop and execute conservation strategies for endangered species
- Collaborate with local communities to promote sustainable land-use practices
- Analyze ecological data to inform conservation policies
- Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and funding partners
- Coordinate with government agencies on wildlife protection initiatives
Required Skills
- Proven experience in biodiversity conservation or ecological research
- Strong analytical skills in data collection and interpretation
- Excellent communication and community engagement abilities
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and environmental monitoring tools
- Proficiency in report writing and grant proposal development
- Adaptability to remote fieldwork conditions
Education
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or a related discipline. A Master’s Degree is a strong advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in conservation projects, preferably in Africa. Experience working in Rwanda or neighboring regions is highly desirable.
Salary
3,500,000 – 4,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
