Job Overview
The 6G Network Planning Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and optimization of Rwanda’s upcoming 6G radio access network (RAN). Working closely with cross‑functional teams—including RF, core network, spectrum management, and regulatory affairs—the engineer will develop comprehensive network plans, conduct simulations, and define deployment strategies that meet performance, coverage, and capacity targets. This role is critical for MTN Rwanda’s ambition to be a pioneer in 6G technology in East Africa, ensuring seamless integration with existing 5G infrastructure while preparing for future services such as holographic communication, ultra‑low latency industrial automation, and massive machine‑type communications. The position reports to the Head of Network Architecture and collaborates with senior leadership to align technical roadmaps with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop end‑to‑end 6G network architecture and radio planning models based on market demand forecasts and regulatory constraints.
- Perform advanced propagation modeling, capacity analysis, and interference mitigation using industry‑leading tools such as Atoll, Planet, and custom AI‑driven simulators.
- Collaborate with spectrum regulators to secure appropriate frequency bands and ensure compliance with national and international standards.
- Define site acquisition criteria, antenna configurations, and backhaul requirements for optimal coverage and capacity.
- Lead pilot deployments, field trials, and performance validation in partnership with vendors and research institutions.
- Generate detailed technical documentation, cost‑benefit analyses, and rollout schedules for senior management review.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support cross‑departmental knowledge transfer.
- Monitor emerging 6G standards (e.g., ITU, 3GPP) and recommend strategic adaptations to MTN Rwanda’s roadmap.
Required Skills
- Deep expertise in RF engineering, radio propagation, and network optimization for 4G/5G technologies.
- Proficiency with planning tools (Atoll, Planet, Mentum) and scripting languages (Python, MATLAB) for custom analysis.
- Strong understanding of spectrum management, regulatory frameworks, and international standards.
- Experience with AI/ML techniques applied to network planning and predictive analytics.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities, data‑driven decision making, and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for presenting complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Project management experience, including budgeting, timeline tracking, and risk mitigation.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or 3GPP certification) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in mobile network planning, preferably with exposure to 5G deployments and emerging 6G research initiatives. Experience working in a multinational telecom environment, collaborating with vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, or Huawei, is strongly preferred.
Salary
MTN Rwanda offers a competitive compensation package ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance.
