Job Overview
The Solar Farm Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of a 50‑MW solar farm located near Ruhengeri. Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, the manager will ensure optimal performance, safety compliance, and financial efficiency of the plant. Responsibilities include overseeing operations staff, coordinating maintenance activities, monitoring performance metrics, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with local stakeholders, regulators, and Siemens’ global support teams. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary operations team of technicians, engineers, and support staff.
- Monitor real‑time plant performance using SCADA systems and ensure generation targets are met.
- Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to maximize equipment availability.
- Ensure compliance with Rwandan environmental, health, and safety regulations as well as Siemens’ internal standards.
- Manage vendor contracts, spare‑part inventories, and service agreements to control operational costs.
- Prepare and present monthly performance reports, KPI dashboards, and financial summaries to senior management.
- Drive continuous improvement projects focused on efficiency, reliability, and cost reduction.
- Coordinate with local communities and government agencies to maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
- Oversee incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Support the integration of energy storage and hybrid solutions as the plant expands.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) technology, inverter systems, and grid interconnection standards.
- Proficiency in SCADA, data analytics, and performance monitoring tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team‑building abilities.
- Project management expertise with a focus on maintenance and reliability.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and electrical codes.
- Problem‑solving mindset with a data‑driven approach to decision making.
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; French is a plus.
- Understanding of Rwandan renewable energy policies and incentives.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as PMP, CEM (Certified Energy Manager), or equivalent are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience managing operations of utility‑scale solar farms or comparable renewable energy facilities. Prior experience in a leadership role within the African energy sector is highly preferred.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,500,000 to SSP 2,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and pension contributions.
