Job Overview
The Curriculum Development Specialist will lead the design, adaptation, and implementation of competency‑based curricula for primary and secondary education in Rwanda. Working under the Learning & Capacity Building department, you will partner with the Ministry of Education, local NGOs, and international donors to create learning materials that align with national standards and global best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end development of curricula for core subjects, incorporating competency‑based frameworks and digital learning resources.
- Conduct needs assessments and stakeholder consultations with teachers, school leaders, and policy makers to ensure relevance and feasibility.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to produce lesson plans, assessment tools, and teacher guides that reflect inclusive and gender‑responsive pedagogy.
- Coordinate pilot testing in selected schools, gather feedback, and refine materials based on evidence‑based analysis.
- Provide technical assistance and capacity‑building workshops for curriculum trainers and educators across Rwanda.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of curriculum interventions, preparing reports for donors and senior management.
- Ensure alignment with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 education goals and World Bank’s strategic objectives.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in curriculum design, instructional design, and competency‑based education.
- Proficiency in integrating ICT tools and e‑learning platforms into curriculum materials.
- Excellent analytical, research, and report‑writing abilities.
- Effective communication and facilitation skills for diverse stakeholder groups.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Kinyarwanda and French is an advantage.
- Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline management.
Education
A Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Studies, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in e‑learning development, gender‑responsive education, or international development are highly valued.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience designing curricula for K‑12 education, preferably within a development or multilateral organization context. Experience working in Rwanda or the broader East African region is a strong plus.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 800,000 to 1,200,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The compensation package includes performance‑based incentives and allowances aligned with World Bank policies.
