Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Circular Economy Implementation Manager to lead our resource recovery and waste valorization initiatives in Eastern Rwanda. This strategic role involves designing, implementing, and managing circular economy projects that transform waste streams into valuable resources while creating economic and environmental benefits. The successful candidate will develop partnerships with municipalities, businesses, and communities to establish closed-loop systems that minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency.

The Circular Economy Implementation Manager will oversee multiple projects simultaneously, from initial feasibility studies through to operational implementation and performance monitoring. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement circular economy strategies for municipal and industrial waste streams in Eastern Rwanda
- Design and manage resource recovery systems including material sorting, recycling, composting, and energy recovery facilities
- Conduct feasibility studies and business case analyses for circular economy projects
- Establish partnerships with local governments, businesses, and community organizations to create closed-loop supply chains
- Monitor and report on project performance against environmental, social, and economic indicators
- Develop training programs for local staff and community members on circular economy principles and practices
- Identify funding opportunities and prepare proposals for circular economy initiatives
- Ensure compliance with Rwandan environmental regulations and international sustainability standards
- Conduct waste characterization studies and material flow analyses to identify recovery opportunities
- Coordinate with technical teams on the design and optimization of resource recovery facilities

Education
A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, Circular Economy, or a closely related field is required. Additional certifications in project management (PMP, PRINCE2), environmental management systems (ISO 14001), or circular economy (Circular Economy Specialist) are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate continuous learning in emerging sustainability practices and technologies.
Experience
Minimum 5-8 years of progressive experience in circular economy implementation, waste management, environmental project management, or sustainable resource management. Experience should include at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role overseeing environmental projects. Previous work in developing countries or emerging economies is preferred, with specific experience in Sub-Saharan Africa considered a strong advantage. Demonstrated success in designing and implementing resource recovery systems is essential.
