Job Overview

The FinTech Product Owner will lead the end‑to‑end lifecycle of digital payment products, from ideation and market research to design, development, launch, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Head of Product, the role collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams including engineering, design, compliance, marketing, and sales to ensure product-market fit and regulatory compliance. This position is central to Mastercard Rwanda’s strategy of expanding digital payment adoption among merchants, consumers, and government services, aligning with national financial inclusion goals and the broader vision of a cash‑less economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define product vision, strategy, and roadmap for fintech solutions that address local market needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Gather and prioritize stakeholder requirements, translating them into clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with engineering and design teams to deliver high‑quality, secure, and scalable digital payment products.
  • Conduct market analysis, competitive benchmarking, and user research to identify growth opportunities.
  • Monitor product performance metrics, analyze data, and iterate on features to improve user adoption and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with Rwanda’s central bank regulations, data privacy laws, and Mastercard’s security standards.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to develop go‑to‑market strategies, launch plans, and promotional campaigns.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external partners, fostering strong relationships and driving joint initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Strong product management expertise with a focus on fintech or digital payments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a data‑driven decision‑making approach.
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies and experience working with cross‑functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of the Rwandan financial ecosystem, regulatory landscape, and consumer behavior.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in product management, fintech, or agile methodologies are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of product ownership or senior product management experience in the financial technology sector, preferably with a track record of launching successful digital payment products in emerging markets.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and benefits outlined below.
