Job Overview
This role is ideal for professionals passionate about environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance. The Environmental Compliance Officer will ensure that Tetra Tech’s projects in Rwanda adhere to national and international environmental laws. The position involves monitoring project activities, conducting audits, and collaborating with stakeholders to minimize ecological impact. Candidates will work closely with engineers, project managers, and local authorities to maintain compliance with Rwanda’s environmental policies and global frameworks like the Paris Agreement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects
- Prepare compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate with local authorities to obtain environmental permits
- Monitor waste management and pollution control systems
- Develop training programs for staff on environmental best practices
- Track changes in environmental regulations and update company protocols
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of Rwandan environmental regulations
- Proficiency in environmental auditing and risk assessment
- Excellent report writing and data analysis skills
- Ability to interpret technical engineering documents
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda
- Experience with GIS mapping software (preferred)
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Management (preferred)
- Professional certifications (e.g., LEED, PMP) are advantageous
Experience
- 3-5 years in environmental compliance roles
- Experience in East African environmental projects
- Project management experience in infrastructure or energy sectors
Salary
500,000 – 800,000 SSP per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
