Job Overview
The Data Center Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of AWS’s Kigali data center, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of all infrastructure components. This role involves overseeing a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, coordinating maintenance activities, and implementing best‑in‑class operational procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the data center operations team, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and manage critical infrastructure components, including power, cooling, networking, and security systems.
- Develop and enforce operational SOPs, incident response plans, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and oversee corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, AWS global standards, and industry certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
- Analyze performance metrics, generate reports, and implement optimization initiatives to improve PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness).
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee third‑party service delivery.
- Collaborate with security teams to conduct regular audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
- Drive capacity planning and forecasting to support business growth and emerging workloads.
- Mentor and develop staff, providing training pathways and career progression opportunities.
Required Skills
- Strong leadership and people management abilities with a focus on team empowerment.
- Deep technical knowledge of data center infrastructure, including UPS, generators, HVAC, and networking.
- Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and automation platforms (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to make data‑driven decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Understanding of cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS) and AWS service portfolio.
- Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks and audit processes.
- Project management expertise, preferably with PMP or ITIL certification.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), or similar are highly desirable and will be considered a strong advantage.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in data center operations, infrastructure management, or related IT environments. Prior experience managing large‑scale facilities, leading technical teams, and coordinating with global service providers is essential.
Salary
