Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our technical services team in Nyagatare. This role is critical for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of medical equipment in healthcare facilities across the Eastern Province. The successful candidate will perform preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of sophisticated medical devices including ultrasound machines, patient monitors, ventilators, and anesthesia systems. Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment according to manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in medical devices including imaging systems, patient monitors, and life support equipment
- Calibrate medical equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards
- Maintain detailed service records, documentation, and equipment history in the computerized maintenance management system
- Provide technical training and support to healthcare staff on proper equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
- Coordinate with hospital biomedical departments to prioritize equipment servicing based on clinical needs
- Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and test equipment required for field service operations
- Participate in equipment installation projects and acceptance testing for new medical devices
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical safety protocols, and radiation safety where applicable
- Respond to emergency service calls and provide timely resolution to minimize equipment downtime
Required Skills
- Strong technical aptitude with ability to understand complex electronic and mechanical systems
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized medical equipment testers
- Excellent problem-solving skills with systematic approach to troubleshooting
- Knowledge of medical device regulations, quality standards, and safety protocols
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Strong communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals and technical teams
- Computer literacy with experience using equipment management software and documentation systems
- Physical ability to move and position heavy medical equipment as needed

Education
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Medical Equipment Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Additional certification from recognized biomedical equipment technician programs is highly desirable. Specialized training in specific medical equipment categories such as diagnostic imaging, patient monitoring, or respiratory equipment will be considered an advantage.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing medical equipment in a hospital setting or with a medical equipment service provider. Experience with GE Healthcare products is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate progressive responsibility in equipment maintenance roles and show evidence of technical competency through work history or certification. Experience working in rural or remote healthcare facilities will be particularly valuable for this position.

Working Environment
This position involves working in various healthcare facilities across the Eastern Province, primarily in Nyagatare and surrounding districts. You will split your time between hospital environments where equipment is installed and our regional service center. The role requires regular travel to different healthcare sites, sometimes in remote areas. You will work independently with support from regional and national technical teams. The position offers a blend of hands-on technical work, customer interaction, and administrative responsibilities. Safety is paramount, and you will be provided with all necessary personal protective equipment and training to work safely in healthcare environments.
