Job Overview

The Sustainable Agriculture Extension Specialist will be responsible for providing technical support to IFAD-funded projects in Rwanda, with a focus on promoting sustainable agriculture practices and improving the productivity of smallholder farmers. The specialist will work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, as well as other stakeholders, to ensure that IFAD’s support is aligned with the government’s priorities and contributes to the achievement of the SDGs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to IFAD-funded projects in Rwanda, with a focus on promoting sustainable agriculture practices and improving the productivity of smallholder farmers.
  • Work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, as well as other stakeholders, to ensure that IFAD’s support is aligned with the government’s priorities and contributes to the achievement of the SDGs.
  • Develop and implement training programs for extension agents and farmers on sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project progress and provide technical support to project staff.
  • Collaborate with other IFAD staff to ensure that project activities are integrated and contribute to the achievement of the project’s objectives.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in sustainable agriculture and extension services.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices and their application in Rwanda.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with other stakeholders.
