Job Overview

The Curriculum Development Specialist will lead the design, review, and implementation of curricula across primary, secondary, and vocational education streams. Reporting to the Director of Curriculum Development, the specialist will collaborate with subject matter experts, teachers, and international partners to ensure that learning materials are relevant, culturally appropriate, and aligned with global standards. The role involves conducting needs assessments, integrating technology-enhanced learning, and monitoring the impact of curriculum changes on student performance. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end development of curricula for primary, secondary, and vocational programs, ensuring alignment with national standards and international best practices.
• Conduct comprehensive needs analyses and stakeholder consultations to identify gaps and opportunities in existing curricula.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts, teachers, and technology partners to integrate digital resources and innovative pedagogical approaches.
• Develop detailed curriculum guides, lesson plans, assessment frameworks, and teacher support materials.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of new curricula, collecting data to assess impact on learning outcomes.
• Provide technical assistance and capacity‑building workshops for teachers and school administrators.
• Prepare policy briefs, reports, and presentations for senior management and external partners.
• Stay abreast of global education trends, emerging technologies, and research to continuously improve curriculum quality.

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in curriculum design, instructional design, and educational assessment.
• Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to translate data into actionable curriculum improvements.
• Proficiency in integrating ICT tools and e‑learning platforms into curriculum frameworks.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline management.
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; French is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Studies, Instructional Design, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in educational technology or project management will be given preference.

Experience

Applicants must have at least five years of proven experience in curriculum development within the education sector, preferably with exposure to both public and private school systems. Experience working with international development agencies or NGOs in Rwanda is considered a strong asset.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of 800,000 – 1,200,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted annually based on performance and market benchmarks.
