Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Project Engineer will play a pivotal role in planning, designing, and executing solar and hydroelectric projects across Rwanda. Reporting to the Project Development Manager, the engineer will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage technical specifications, and ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and engineering of solar PV and small‑hydro projects from feasibility to commissioning.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans, ensuring alignment with corporate targets.
  • Conduct site assessments, including topographical surveys, resource measurements, and environmental impact analyses.
  • Coordinate with procurement, construction, and operations teams to guarantee seamless project execution.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, such as design calculations, specifications, and as‑built drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with Rwandan energy regulations, international standards, and TotalEnergies safety protocols.
  • Provide technical support during tendering processes and assist in the preparation of bid packages.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain timelines and budgets.
  • Engage with local communities and authorities to promote project benefits and address concerns.
  • Report progress to senior management and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies, especially solar PV and hydroelectric systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and MATLAB.
  • Excellent project management abilities with a track record of delivering complex engineering projects.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Kinyarwanda is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or renewable energy (e.g., NABCEP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should possess 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience in renewable energy project engineering, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases. Experience working in Rwanda or other East African markets is a strong plus.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 800,000 to SSP 1,200,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
