Job Overview
The Marine Biologist will be responsible for leading WWF’s marine conservation efforts in Rwanda, with a focus on protecting the country’s freshwater and marine ecosystems. This will involve working closely with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective conservation strategies, and to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic development that are compatible with the long-term health of the environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in marine biology, with a focus on conservation and management of freshwater and marine ecosystems. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and will be able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and other NGOs.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective conservation strategies for freshwater and marine ecosystems in Rwanda
- Work closely with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic development that are compatible with the long-term health of the environment
- Conduct research and monitoring programs to assess the health and status of freshwater and marine ecosystems in Rwanda
- Develop and implement education and outreach programs to raise awareness about the importance of marine conservation and the impact of human activities on the environment
- Collaborate with other WWF teams and partners to develop and implement regional and global conservation strategies
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in marine biology or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in marine conservation and management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda
Education
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in marine biology or a related field, with a focus on conservation and management of freshwater and marine ecosystems.
Experience
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in marine conservation and management, with a focus on protecting freshwater and marine ecosystems.
Salary
The salary for this position is SSP 2,500,000 – SSP 4,000,000 per year, depending on experience.
