Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Satellite Communications Systems Engineer to join our growing team in Gisenyi. This role is central to the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of our satellite communication infrastructure in Rwanda. You will be responsible for the end-to-end performance of satellite communication links, from the user terminal and ground stations to the satellite payload and network operations center. You will tackle complex technical challenges to ensure network reliability, maximize throughput, and support the expansion of services. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and simulate satellite communication systems, including link budgets, modulation schemes, and multiple access techniques.
  • Oversee the integration and testing of new ground station equipment and user terminal technology in the Rwandan network.
  • Monitor and analyze network performance metrics, identifying and troubleshooting anomalies to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams on the development and deployment of next-generation satellite and ground system technologies.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, operational procedures, and performance reports.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field operations teams for installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Conduct spectrum analysis and regulatory compliance activities related to satellite communications in the Rwandan and regional context.
  • Lead projects to enhance network capacity, resilience, and coverage across Rwanda.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in satellite communication principles, including RF propagation, digital modulation (QPSK, APSK), coding, and multiple access (FDMA, TDMA).
  • Proficiency with network simulation and analysis tools (e.g., STK, MATLAB, Python).
  • Strong understanding of IP networking and its integration with satellite systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Project management experience and a proactive, results-oriented mindset.

Education

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Advanced certifications in satellite communications or network engineering are a significant advantage.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in satellite communications systems engineering, preferably within a commercial satellite operator, aerospace company, or telecommunications service provider. Experience with low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems, phased array antenna technology, and ground segment architecture is highly desirable. Proven experience in system integration, testing, and operational support is essential.
