Job Overview
The Energy Market Analyst will play a pivotal role in monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting energy market trends within Rwanda and the broader East African region. Reporting to the Head of Market Analysis, the analyst will provide data‑driven insights that influence pricing strategies, investment decisions, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data on electricity generation, consumption, and pricing across Rwanda and neighboring markets.
- Develop short‑term and long‑term market forecasts using statistical models and scenario analysis.
- Monitor regulatory developments, policy changes, and government initiatives affecting the energy sector.
- Prepare comprehensive market reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Support pricing strategy formulation by providing cost‑benefit analyses and competitive benchmarking.
- Collaborate with the trading team to assess market risks and opportunities for power purchase agreements.
- Identify emerging trends in renewable integration, demand response, and smart grid technologies.
- Maintain and update internal databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Experience with statistical software such as R, Python, or STATA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for report writing and stakeholder engagement.
- Understanding of energy market structures, power generation technologies, and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving capabilities.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Energy Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CEM, CFA) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates should have 3‑5 years of relevant experience in energy market analysis, commodity trading, or a similar analytical role within the power sector. Experience working with regional energy markets, regulatory bodies, or international energy consultancies will be viewed favorably.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 800,000 to 1,200,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
