Job Overview

The AI Ethics Specialist will lead the development and implementation of ethical frameworks for artificial intelligence solutions deployed by SAP Rwanda and its clients. This role bridges the gap between cutting‑edge technology and responsible use, ensuring that AI systems are transparent, fair, and aligned with societal values. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, legal teams, and external stakeholders to embed ethical considerations throughout the AI lifecycle.

This position is critical for maintaining trust with customers and regulators, especially as Rwanda accelerates its adoption of AI in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and public services. The specialist will also contribute to thought leadership, publishing guidelines and participating in industry forums to position SAP Rwanda as a leader in AI ethics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain AI ethical guidelines, policies, and assessment tools tailored to local regulatory and cultural contexts.
  • Conduct ethical risk assessments for AI projects, identifying potential biases, privacy concerns, and compliance gaps.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to integrate fairness, accountability, and transparency mechanisms into AI models.
  • Provide training and workshops for internal teams and client partners on responsible AI practices.
  • Monitor emerging AI regulations in Rwanda and the East African Community, ensuring alignment with corporate policies.
  • Lead cross‑functional ethics review boards, facilitating stakeholder discussions and decision‑making.
  • Produce documentation, reports, and whitepapers to communicate ethical findings to senior leadership and external audiences.
  • Advise on the ethical implications of AI deployments in high‑impact sectors such as finance, health, and public administration.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, data governance, and algorithmic bias mitigation.
  • Knowledge of international AI ethics frameworks (e.g., IEEE, EU AI Act) and ability to adapt them to the Rwandan context.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex ethical issues into actionable recommendations.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management, capable of influencing technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience drafting policies, guidelines, and compliance documentation.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Kinyarwanda is an advantage.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Philosophy, Ethics, Law, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in AI ethics, data privacy, or responsible AI are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of experience working at the intersection of technology and ethics, preferably within a multinational technology firm or a consultancy focused on AI governance.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based bonuses may be awarded.
