Job Overview
This role focuses on designing and optimizing energy systems for commercial and residential buildings in Rwanda. The specialist will collaborate with architects, engineers, and policymakers to integrate renewable energy technologies and reduce carbon footprints. The position aligns with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 and the East African Green Building Council’s sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct energy audits for new and existing buildings to identify efficiency improvements
- Design HVAC, lighting, and insulation systems that meet LEED or Green Star certification standards
- Model energy consumption using tools like EnergyPlus or IESVE
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders
- Advocate for sustainable materials and construction practices
Required Skills
- Proficiency in building energy simulation software
- Knowledge of Rwandan building codes and climate conditions
- Experience with solar PV, geothermal, or biomass energy systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s in Sustainable Design is a plus.
Experience
3–5 years in energy efficiency consulting, preferably in East Africa. Experience with green building certifications is required.
Salary
3,500,000 – 4,500,000 SSP annually, depending on experience.
