Job Description
Kivu Choice is hiring a Technical and Electrical Engineer – Cold Chain in Rwanda for its rapidly expanding aquaculture operations. This role is ideal for professionals seeking engineering jobs in Rwanda, refrigeration technician roles, or cold chain maintenance careers in Africa. Kivu Choice is Rwanda’s largest protein producer and a fast-growing aquaculture company operating a fully integrated model from hatchery to distribution. The Technical and Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and maintenance of cold chain systems used to preserve fish quality across storage and transport operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems in cold rooms, reefers, and storage units
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults in refrigeration equipment
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance to avoid system breakdowns
- Inspect and replace components such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, and wiring systems
- Conduct performance testing to ensure compliance with operational standards
- Maintain and troubleshoot diesel-powered reefer units, including basic engine diagnostics
- Ensure accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and parts usage documentation
- Follow safety procedures and company standards during all technical operations
- Collaborate with teams to ensure smooth cold chain operations in fish production and distribution
- Install and maintain electrical systems including power, lighting, and control systems
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Proven experience as a Reefer Technician, Refrigeration Mechanic, or similar role
- Certification in HVAC, refrigeration, or related technical field preferred
- Experience with brands such as Carrier, Thermo King, or similar systems is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and circuitry
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Understanding of automation and control systems
- Knowledge of safety procedures and industrial standards
- Valid electrician license or equivalent certification (advantageous)
