Job Description
University Teaching Hospital of Butare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join its healthcare team in Butare. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, assisting physicians with medical procedures, and ensuring that all clinical activities comply with hospital protocols and national healthcare regulations.
The nurse will work within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment that includes doctors, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated and effective patient treatment. This role requires a strong understanding of modern clinical practices, the ability to monitor patient conditions accurately, and the commitment to maintaining patient safety and comfort at all times.
As a key member of the nursing team, the candidate will support hospital departments such as emergency care units, inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and specialized treatment centers. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to respond quickly to emergency medical situations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide professional nursing care to patients in accordance with hospital standards and clinical guidelines.
Monitor and record patient vital signs, symptoms, and treatment progress.
Administer medications, injections, and IV therapies as prescribed by physicians.
Assist doctors during medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical procedures.
Maintain accurate patient medical records and nursing documentation.
Implement strict infection prevention and control measures across healthcare units.
Respond to emergency care situations and trauma cases when required.
Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medication usage, and recovery procedures.
Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop patient care plans and treatment strategies.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of medical equipment and clinical supplies.
Support junior nurses and assist with training and mentoring programs.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, nursing ethics, and patient safety policies.
Candidate Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing or Healthcare Sciences.
Registered with the Rwanda Nursing and Midwifery Council.
3–5 years of professional nursing experience in hospitals or healthcare institutions.
Strong knowledge of clinical nursing procedures, patient monitoring, and emergency care protocols.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work flexible schedules including night shifts, weekends, and emergency duties.
Strong commitment to patient safety, ethical medical practice, and healthcare quality improvement.

💰 Annual Salary: RWF 5,200,000 – RWF 7,200,000
